7 Ways to Practice Self-Care This Winter

There's just a certain vibe about winter that makes you want to snuggle up under your favorite blanket, turn on Netflix, and hunker down with hot coffee in your favorite Target mug. But...there's also something about winter that can leave you feeling drowsy, blue, and just blah.

What is self-care?
Simply put, I think self-care is loving yourself enough to invest in YOU so you can then invest in others.
You can create a self-cae retreat from your home and today I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to easily practice self-care during the winter months. So, on those gloommy winter days when you're feeling dreary and uninspired, take a look at the following ideas below to treat yourself!

1 | Cozy playlist
I personally think music is an essential ingredient for self-care. It creates a mood. It can create a real shift inside you because music soothes, uplifts, and can often connect us to memories. Here is the link to my A.M. routine and self-care playlist. I am always adding new songs so follow along for all your self-care needs. :)

2 | Draw a bath & throw in a bath bomb
Who doesn't love a bubble bath!! But obviously you need a more sophisticated version of a bubble bath so hello bath fizzies! I highly suggest getting some bath fizzies from Frosting Company because 1) they make them with natural and organic ingredients and 2) portions of the proceeds are donated to help find a cure for childhood cancer.

3 | Inspirational podcasts
As you go through your skincare routine or waiting as the coffee brews, pop on a podcast that will just feed your soul. There are many, many self-help podcasts for you to choose from, but below are just a couple to get you started.

4 | Make a pot of stovepot potpurri
If you want to try something a little different other than the normal candles (plus save a good $25 from not buying candles), the stovetop potpurri is PERFECT! Basically you throw fruits, herbs and spices into a pot of boiling water to get the aromas going. You can literally make your home smell like a homemade baked apple pie, coffee house or a spring day.

Williams Sonoma Recipe
2 lemons, sliced
2 sprigs rosemary
1 tbsp vanilla extract
Fill a pot with water and simmer.

Coffee Cake Recipe
2-4 cinnamon sticks
Leftover coffee grounds (about 1 cup)
1-2 tsp vanilla extract
Fill a pot with water and simmer.

Christmas Recipe
3-5 cinnamon sticks
1 orange, sliced
1-2 sprigs rosemary
1 tbsp cloves
1 cup fresh cranberries
2 tsp nutmeg
Fill a pot with water and simmer.

5 | Create a quote book
In high school I can remember creating a book full of quotes and sayings that I thought were poetic, inspiring and just plain motivating. I would get quotes from literally anywhere; movies, books, song lyrics, speaker's, & bible verses. Just go for it. I loved going back and reading through all the quotes because often it would just take one verse or lyric to spark an idea, a blog post, or some long term goal.

6 | Create a vision board on Pinterest
One of my favorite ways to clear my head and lift spirits is to just scroll through my bucket list/vision board (or my dream slides). Fill your board with anything that you are currently dreaming about or quotes and affirmations that are speaking to you. This will fill you up with positive things. So simple yet so powerful.

7 | Treat yo self with a fun monthly subscription
Sub boxes are all the rage right now with literally a box for EVERYTHING you could possibly want. I think receiving a monthly box full of goodies is such a fun way
to treat yourself every month with really little effort. So this might be all TMI but come on, girl talk has to happen sometime. I don’t know about you but who really
remembers to buy undies. And if you do, I can still pretty much guarantee you don’t buy new ones every month. Well, listen up all college girls and the crazy busy on
the go working girl, BootayBag is THE treat yo self subscription service that you need in your life. Excuse the dramaticness in that sentence, but seriously wouldn't
you love to come back to your dorm room from a long day of classes or had meetings upon meetings this week and are finally arriving home from the office to find
the CUTEST little bag full of girly goodies waiting for you. Umm YES please!

BootayBag is a subscription service that delivers two new pairs of underwear to your home every month. When you get started you get to pick out the style of the
undies you want so you’ll be sure to get something you’ll actually want to wear. I like having a variety so I went with the “Mix It Up” option, if you’re picky than you
can select “Only Thongs” or “Never Things”.
For $12 a month, and free shipping in the U.S., I think BootayBag is definitely doable when you think about the time it would take you to go shopping for
undies + all the $$ you would have to spend on quality paires. Also, for any of your monthly orders you can add a bralette for $13. It’s just a one at a time things so
you don’t have to worry about accidentally adding it on for every month.

Lastly, BootayBag comes in such cute packaging, which is perfect because you can snap a selfie and show it off! Once you’ve taken your pic make sure to share it on
social media with the hashtag #undermatters. Every time someone uses the hashtag BootayBag donates $1 to the Melanoma Foundation.
You can fill out what styles you want here and then place your order!
You are now one BootayBag away from having a cuter and newer undies drawer!

What are your favorite ways to practice self-care? Take some time now to list them below.
