7 Ways To Empower Other Women Today

Happy Wednesday ladies! A topic that is close to my heart is that of equipping and empowering other women. If you look at the lives of successful women, most of the time they've had a figure in their life that they say highly contributed to the success they have now. They had someone in their life who was their motivator and voice of empowerment in moments of doubt. Let's chat about some ways that everyone no matter if you're in college or the corporate world, can uplift others and be that positive force in their life.
"Empowered women empower women"

1. Love yourself
You can't empower other women if you first don't show yourself love & confidence. In other words, you can't give what you don't have. Even if no one else notices, you wouldn't be doing yourself a favor by just going through the motions. The more you stretch and fill yourself up, the more you'll be able to bless other people.

2. Be a role model
The saying rings true, "be the person you would want to meet". Let them see your confidence and strength and that will encourage them to follow your example. Take this opportunity to be the example you needed at one point in your life. Actions speak louder than words ever will.

3. Become a person of edification
Our society seems to feed negativity and competition all around us whether that be in real life or on social media. In a world that seems to be obsessed with all things fake and filtered, you will become the light to many women by bringing edification to every conversation and relationship. This small act has the ability to transform lives. From personal experience, women don't know how to compliment and uplift other women without jealousy overriding their good act. Mastering the art of edification can change lives because deep down, everyone craves permission to thrive and everyone craves recognition...especially from other women.

4. Realize everyone has a different journey
Understanding that everyone is on a different journey in life, is one of the most critical steps to keep in mind when empowering women. From faith walk, relationships and careers, not one person is alike. That is what makes life and our current vocation in life so exciting. Just because that girl in your class got a paid internship in NYC this summer and you stayed in your home town to work for a local office doesn't make you any less of a girlboss, any less of a professional, or any less of a person. We all are put in situations and given opportunities because we need to learn something or meet someone that will be vital to our future successes. If you got that internship in NYC this summer then you would never have been able to gain a contact at the local office that will land you that post grad job. Once you learn to admire someones else's accomplishments without questioning your own, then you will be able to freely and authentically empower others.

5. Community over competition
"If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far go together". This African Proverb is so true when it comes to empowering women. Instead of spending your energy and talents by outdoing each other, learn to become better together. Exchange ideas, push each other to do better, and just do life together. You might be the only positive influence some women have in their life.

6. Be present in their life
Make a conscious effort to be truly present in conversations. Ask questions about what is going on in their life and really listen to their answers. Keep a mental note of important events happening in their life. For example, let's say a friend of yours has a grad school interview. Send her a little text saying you are thinking of her and sending prayers for a successful interview. Then after the interview, you could also send a text asking how she's doing. Having a listening ear is sometimes all that is needed to make the other person feel loved and valued.

7. Show authentic kindness
Take time to tell someone they look nice or that you’ve noticed the progress they’re making. Nothing makes us feel better about ourselves than a few heartfelt, kind words. Remember to be truly authentic when you give a compliment because the recipient knows when you are not being genuine and are just saying words.

One of the greatest ways to make a difference is by building up the women around you to be successful and confident. At one point, someone empowered you, take this time to give back and help encourage the future female leaders.

  1. I take number two so seriously, since I'm a teacher. I teach middle school and that's such a huge age for young girls, they don't really have confidence and it's so easy to sway them in a negative manner if you aren't careful. I always try to be my best and radiate confidence, I'm constantly working to build them up because if you build them up at a young age-they'll be empowered women!

    1. You have been put into those girls life for a reason and you are using your time with them in such an awesome way. You may never know your impact on their lives, but 20 years from now one of your girls is going to remember your witness and she's going to choose greatness. xo

  6. Realizing that everyone has a different journey is very hard, but really is a huge step in becoming a better person. We all have such different values and experiences. When you step back & try to see it from someone else's perspective it can really give you a different outlook & take away negative thoughts.

  10. So true. First we must love and accept ourselves before we can do so of others. That is one thing I've accomplished that has brought me clarity. I used to get really jealous + compared myself to other girls on Instagram, but I fought it by complimenting them instead of dwelling with my envy :)

    1. We need to learn to put our energy and emotions into building community around us. When we do that we begin to see that everyone truly is striving to make a difference. Then we leave no room for jealousy and envy. xo

  11. This last year I've really made a conscious effort to focus on fostering a community rather than worrying about what other bloggers are doing. I think it's been very successful for my blog and also for my peace of mind. There's room for everybody once you make room!

  12. This is amazing! It's so important that women empower each other instead of bringing each other down. There's already so many hardships for us. We don't need to make it harder by always being in competition. I think the first point is the most, most important. You have to love yourself in order to make any kind of influence.

  13. Yes to everyone has a different journey!!! Everything happens for a reason for EVERYONE! It's hard to forget that and start competing, but there's nothing to compete with other than yourself!

  14. I love all of these, but especially number four! It's so easy to judge someone else's decisions or get upset because someone was given an opportunity that we weren't, but we all have different life experiences who have shaped who we are today, and it's so important to remember that. Great post!
